Barn Revival

Katie and Richard, along with their three children, two dogs, and Pickle the cat, have called their converted barn in Warwickshire home for nearly 20 years. The barn, a former cowshed, retained its traditional charm with terracotta tiles, a green Aga, and rustic wooden beams. However, as part of ongoing renovations to make the space more homely and functional, they decided it was time to reimagine their kitchen.

The kitchen has always been the heart of their home—a hub for family life and entertaining friends. Katie wanted to preserve the layout but transform the space into a lighter, brighter environment while respecting its heritage features.

Key elements of the barn’s character, such as the beautiful arched windows and exposed wooden beams, were retained. However, the terracotta tiles were replaced with limestone flooring, enhancing the room’s light and airy atmosphere. After visiting the Kitchen Makers showroom and working closely with a designer, Katie and Richard opted for the classic shaker-style Haddon kitchen. 

The couple selected a  beautiful denim blue shade, Pale Navy, for the main kitchen units, paired with a neutral island painted in Cashmere. The Cashmere tone was also used for a media unit at the far end of the open-plan kitchen and dining area, creating a cohesive and versatile space.

The transformation has been stunning. Katie and Richard are delighted with the timeless design, fresh colour palette, and enhanced natural light. Their revamped kitchen remains the heart of their home, blending style and functionality while embracing the barn’s rich history. They look forward to creating memories in this beautiful space for years to come.
