Gravel & Stone

Set in a detached stone self-build overlooking open countryside in a South Northamptonshire village, this project called for a fully bespoke kitchen, utility and boot room to form the neutral-toned heart of a brand-new family home. The result is a large, sweeping in-frame kitchen designed for hosting, with both formal and informal seating, alongside a luxurious boot room and utility that handle the practicalities of everyday life.

The kitchen is built around our Haddon door, painted in Pale Smoke and Gravel with an oak cabinet finish, and dressed with cup and knob handles. A Calacatta Luxo worktop with a double-height 60mm ogee edge brings classical elegance, while an antique bronze mirror splashback and a patinated brass Quooker tap add warmth and depth to the neutral palette. Soft wood accents and textured glazing draw the spectacular field views into the room, and a bespoke mantel crowns the cooking area. Storage is generous and considered, including a dedicated drinks cabinet.

Two statement pieces in hand-finished stained black oak define the space: a self-supporting floating breakfast bar and a curved box-jointed dining table whose waterfall edge sweeps to the floor. The black oak was chosen to match the internal joinery running throughout the house, tying the kitchen seamlessly into the wider build.

The boot room and utility show just how much can be achieved in a compact footprint. With the family entering the house through this space daily — dog in tow — it combines multi-height work surfaces, lowered wooden seating and raised quartz tops with dedicated storage, proving that these hardworking spaces deserve the same craftsmanship as the kitchen itself.

For the owners, this was more than a kitchen: “A deeply personal project for us to gather as a family. Our finishing standard was deliberately high, and Moulton Kitchens exceeded our expectations.” The finished result is a high-end, classically beautiful open space that hosts family and friends with ease — bespoke furniture made to last for generations.
